Focus Wall

Text Talk

We continued bringing our stories to life during Writer's Workshop.  This week we focused on adding feelings.

In Reading Workshop, we learned that good readers make connections while they read.  Ask your 1st grader what it means to make a Text to Self and Text to Text Connection.

Look at all the thinking we did while reading!!

Compound Words!

Check out what we can do on our iPads!  We know how to make a picture in Drawing Pad, take a screen shot, and upload it on Padlet.  iPads are such a great learning tool!!

Monster Mash Day!

Of course we had to do a silly face!!

And well, just because I couldn't resist sharing.  My sweet girl turned 2 this week!!  Where has the time gone?!?!

Poem of the Week

We learned all about the letters Q & U.  Ask your first grader what they know about these letters!

We also learned about the SS-LL-FF-ZZ Spelling Pattern.  When a one syllable word with a short vowel sound ends in a S, L, F, or Z, you double the last letter.

We learned all about schema this week and how we can use our schema as a comprehension strategy.  Ask your first grader what schema is!

We learned some new Daily 5 choices.

Write the Room

Practicing sight words with Wikki Stix.

Make a Card

We also learned about Rainbow Write but I forgot to snap a picture of that super fun Daily 5 choice!

During math, we continued working with number bonds and practiced these mathematical practices while solving addition story problems.  We also practiced counting by 2s - this is a skill you can practice at home as well. ;)

During Writing Workshop, we worked on bringing our stories to life by making our characters talk and move.
Here's an example of adding speech bubbles to our stories to make our characters talk.

We are LOVING our iPads and are becoming quite the iPad experts!!

We know how to scan QR Codes as a quick way to get to a website.

We know how to post on Padlet.
Are you familiar with Padlet?  Basically it's a site that allows us to post "sticky notes" all on one page so we can easily see everyone else's thoughts, feelings, and responses.

We also learned how to post on our class blog!!  Check it out!
